Recently, governments in multiple countries and regions around the world have launched substantial 5G promotion measures, and operators responsible for 5G construction have also announced their latest 5G plans. It is not difficult to see that as 5G approaches, the competition for the next generation mobile communication network is unprecedentedly fierce.

Successive efforts from operators

Several large mobile communication operators in Japan recently announced that they will advance their original 5G commercial plan to next year. Given that the 2019 Rugby World Cup will be held in Japan, several Japanese operators have decided to commercialize 5G in 2019, one year ahead of previous plans.

According to reports, at a meeting held by the Ministry of General Affairs of Japan earlier, Japanese operators NTT DoCoMo, SoftBank, and KDDI all stated that they would commercialize 5G in small quantities in 2019 and fully in 2020. Previously, NTT DoCoMo was identified as the official communication service provider for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and analysts predict that the company will take this opportunity to showcase its 5G network and services to the public. Three major mobile operators in Japan have been actively deploying 5G networks in recent years.

Deutsche Telekom recently announced its 5G development plan, which aims to cover 99% of Germany's population and 90% of Germany's territory through its 5G network by 2025. The company stated that in order to achieve this goal, there are 100000 and 200000 employees in Germany and other regions of Europe working towards it.

In addition, Deutsche Telekom stated that in order to promote infrastructure development, it is willing to open its fiber optic network to competitors, especially in remote areas. And this move is also believed to directly promote the overall development of 5G in Germany. Previously, Deutsche Telekom had reached a cooperation agreement with Spain Telecom on the development of 5G. It is reported that the base stations of Spain Telecom will be connected to the optical network of Germany Telecom, and both companies will gain cost-effectiveness from this cooperation. The saved funds will be used to develop two 5G networks. Currently, Deutsche Telekom is attempting to establish Germany's largest all fiber network. This cooperation will enable these two companies to gradually upgrade their 3G and 4G base stations to 5G base stations in the coming years. Currently, Spain Telecom has approximately 5000 base stations in Germany.

The person in charge of Deutsche Telekom specifically stated that "this cooperation is an important measure to ensure the vitality of Germany's mobile communication infrastructure." Deutsche Telekom stated that through this cooperation, the speed of deploying mobile base stations will be accelerated, which also lays the foundation for its subsequent 5G deployment. However, some analysts suggest that this is a gesture of goodwill by the two operators before the German government is about to issue 5G licenses.

British mobile operator O2 recently invited 100 of the largest companies in the UK to participate in its 5G experiment, inviting them to help develop a series of commercial use cases for 5G.

T-Mobile USA recently revealed that 5G services will be available in 30 cities in the United States within the year and will eventually expand nationwide by 2020.

Sprint, another American operator, will also launch 5G services in 9 cities next year. Sprint is waiting
